2011, August 15 Leon Mann was awarded Hononary Fellowship of the Hebrew University ...

Academy Fellow Professor Leon Mann was awarded Honorary Fellowship of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in recognition of his outstanding contributions to scholarship and knowledge and in tribute to his steadfast devotion to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.  The ceremony took place on Mount Scopus on June 20, 2011.  Honorary Fellowship of the Hebrew University is a lifetime award.  Eminent social scientist Leon Mann is  a leader of Australia's Jewish Community.

The Academy Fellow Professor Susan Richardson has been appointed as a member of the Order of Australia for her services to the social sciences, particularly in the field of labour market economics as an academic and researcher, and through contributions to the development of socially inclusive public policy.  The Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia expresses its warm congratulations on behalf of the Fellows.

 

2011, February 10 Professor McDonald is the winner of the of the World ...

Professor Peter McDonald , Director of the Australian Demographic and Social Research Institute, has been named the winner of the World Prize for the Book of the Year of the Islamic Republic of Iran.  The Award was given for The Fertility Transition in Iran: Revolution and Reproduction, a book which Professor McDonald co-authored with Mohammed Jalal Abbasi-Shavazi and Meimanat Hosseini-Chavosi.  The book examines the falling fertility rate in Iran from the early 1980s to 2006 - the fastest fall in fertility ever recorded.

 


 

2011, February 10 The Arthur Goodhart Visiting Professorship of Legal Science goes to ...

The University of Cambridge has given one of its highest academic honours to two Academy Fellows. Professor Peter Cane and Professor Jane Stapleton have been elected to the Arthur Goodhart Visiting Professorship of Legal Science, one of the most prestigious visiting chairs in the common law world. Professor Cane, Director of the John Fleming Centre for Advancement of Legal Research at ANU, and Professor Steplaton, a member of the same Centre, will hold the visiting Professorship sequentially during the academic year of 2011/12.
